We currently have a 1982 Audi 80 saloon, which has been fitted with some "youth" modifications!
Coil overs, big wheels and an interesting front mounted exhaust box.
Shall we restore it to standard or enhance the modifications?
We see a lot of cars that have had a few light improvements that can be returned to standard. These might be simple things-upgraded head unit, different wheels or boot spoiler.
The main thing to consider is how easily can it all be returned to standard?
Loud colour changes won't be to every potential buyer's taste, so think carefully if that is what you are planning.
Same goes for engine changes, like for like is fine to replace a worn or damaged engine.
Replacing that 4 pot with single carb for an injected 4.2 V8 pushes insurance premiums way up and how well has the work been done? Will there be problems in the future?
Any small mods made must be able to be reversed or at least be hidden if needed.
Purists (or rivet counters as they're also know) can tell straight away if something is not factory standard. Discs instead of drums-some will complain not factory while others will see a safety upgrade.
Basically, think whether you would buy a car with the modifications you want to do to your car.
If the answer is no, then don't do it!
If yes, and you are planning on keeping the car long term then go for it!

When you start to do modifications to a car like lowering the suspension, changing the wheels, buying bigger wheels on it and low profile tyres you're modifying the car to suit your tastes.
